In the case that you prefer to file yourself, you have the option of downloading software from the Dutch tax authority (Belastingdienst), which helps you submit electronically when complete using your DigiD.
The Dutch fiscal year runs from 1 January to 31 December. Around the first week of February the tax authority (Belastingdienst) send reminders (in characteristic blue envelopes) about submitting your income tax return. As a rule, you will need to file no later than 1 May. Should you submit your return prior to 1 April, the tax authorities will assess your return before 1 July.
